Hello all together!
I know that a lot of yours follow the Gore/Gillet advices. Which software do you use for measuring the frequencies? Is there a good one for free?

I am not a Gore/Gilbert builder but I do use Alain Lamberts software (I think mine a is a beta version, its quite old). It totally cool to run before/after waveform of some change (saddle material, strings, pickups on an electric) and I used it extensively when I built my archtop. It was reassuring to see the frequency spectrum change as I carved the plates and in addition it followed what Benedetto said would happen.

There were a lot of discussions about it when it first came out, a search of the archives should find them. And I want to thank Alain again for this wonderful tool.

(I'll add that you an do something like it with Audacity but this is much better)

Gore recommends Visual Analyzer : 32 https://www.sillanumsoft.org/
He has a "set-up" course over on Robbie O's site, I bought it. THe short course uses a different version of the FFT than is available, but its similar in principle and form. The version I downloaded is Visual Analyser 2021 R1 32 Bit Licensed to Everyone .

I could get captures, but I could not duplicate the results, capture to capture- it was probably my cheap azed Microphone. I have a new AudioTechnica mic but have not used it yet.

I have been following Giuliano Nicoletti and his Mastering the Sound of the Acoustic Guitar Book, where he recommends a different FFT software. I haven't downloaded it yet.

If you have an Android device you can download 'Luthier Lab' for free. It's got a spectrum analyzer, as well as lots of other stuff.

The version of Visual Analyser that I use in the Robbie course (v. 9.0.6) is still available and is downloadable from the bottom of this page (scroll down until you see it). It will run with a few minor glitches (explained here) on all versions of Windows up to Win 10. It will likely also work on Windows 11, but I haven't tested it.

The later versions of VA have "bells and whistles" (and bugs) that aren't useful for what we want to do, which is why I have stayed with v. 9.0.6. Detailed setup info is also available here. For those who prefer videos to text, a video on how to set up VA and do the tests that I do is available from here.

Using VA will allow you to generate spectrograms that are immediately comparable with what I published in the books and those which many others have posted on various fora.

Lately, I've been using REW (Room EQ Wizard), as suggested in Giuliano Nicoletti's book. As a Mac user, I want something that I can run without a workaround. I found Audacity to be okay, but still prefer REW.

If I were a PC user I would probably use Visual Analyser for the reasons Trevor suggested.

That's interesting. It works fine for me on Windows 11 Enterprise. It does need to be run as admin.

I'll download v. 9.0.6. and see if it works on Win11. I recall when I downloaded it, there was some statement or reason I could not download v. 9.0.6. because it was no longer supported maybe, I can't remember.
Wishing now I would have reached out somehow concerning the versions.
Do you know if I can have both versions loaded?

Robbie actually ran a number of attendee guitars through the short impact process at a top voicing class at Marc Adams School based on that on-line tutorial, and your book. Results were very crisp and repeatable with his setup, as long as it was quiet in the room.

With Windows 10 (at least) I have had up to 3 versions loaded simultaneously. These can be the same version 3 times over (for if you require multiple channels or different setup parameters) or different versions. You can likely run as many versions as you like. Just be sure to load them into different folders or the second will overwrite the first. Keep track of where you put the *.ini files if you want different setups for the different versions.
